PASO - West Suburban Action Project
PASO builds strong communities through intersectional organizing, leadership development, education, and civic engagement so people can live and thrive, regardless of race, immigration status, gender, sexual orientation or socioeconomic level. PASO was founded on the core belief that ordinary people – people directly affected – have the power to make an extraordinary change when acting collectively with others
Community Based Learning
October - November 2019
I decided to do volunteer work with the agency PASO because I stand by their mission and value all the work that they do for the Latinx community and other communities of color with low incomes.

PASO provides low-cost services such as:
Legal services to undocumented people, they offer English classes, DACA workshops, help victims of domestic violence, and other services to help the community.

Volunteering for a nonprofit organization like PASO was most definitely a learning and rewarding experience. I believe that my role as a Latina in this community is to help other Latinos to overcome any challenges that they may face, if they don’t have the resources available to them. My Spanish and my heritage has been my motivation to serve my community as much as I can since I can relate to those people who have immigrated to this country for a better life. I helped my community by translating documents such as cover letters, letters of support, and other documents that were part of a citizenship or DACA application. Overall, I am so happy I was able to work with such an amazing and supportive team at PASO where I’ve learned the importance of the Latino community in this country along with the issues and injustices that exist.
